When she is not planning impactful networking and professional development events for WID San Diego, Ebony Mullins spends her time meeting with Oprah Winfrey. Well, she did one time.

Ebony recently met Oprah through her alma mater, National University, as one of 11 students selected out of hundreds who submitted essays about their life stories. Each selected student was able to ask the media mogul a question during a presentation at National University headquarters in La Jolla, Calif.

The theme of the event was “Live Your Best Life” and was streamed live to the rest of the student body across the country. Ebony asked Oprah, “What advice would you give your 21-year old self?”

Ebony works as a defense contractor with Highbury Defense Group where she is a senior systems engineer supporting the Navy’s Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I). Her essay focused on the importance of a higher education in a male-dominated defense industry, her efforts to pursue a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) career to become an engineer and how she mentors other women through her involvement in Women in Defense.
